Chelsea Eye Ophthalmology provides urgent evaluation and treatment for a wide range of emergency eye conditions. Sudden changes in vision or acute eye symptoms should always be taken seriously. Our ophthalmologists are experienced in diagnosing and managing conditions that require immediate attention to help prevent vision loss and relieve discomfort.
Common Emergency Symptoms
Seek urgent care if you experience:
1. Sudden vision loss or decreased vision
2. Flashes of light or new floaters
3. Eye trauma or injury
4. Chemical exposure
5. Severe eye pain
6. Redness with light sensitivity
7. Sudden double vision
8. New onset of distortion or shadow in vision
If you are unsure whether your symptoms are urgent, it is safer to be evaluated promptly.
Conditions We Manage
Common emergency eye problems include:
1. Corneal abrasions and foreign bodies
2. Retinal tears or detachments
3. Acute glaucoma
4. Eye infections (bacterial, viral, or fungal)
5. Iritis or uveitis
6. Chemical injuries
7. Subconjunctival hemorrhage with associated trauma
8. Acute contact lens complications
Our team will determine whether treatment can be managed in-office or requires referral to an emergency facility.
What to Expect at Your Visit
During an urgent evaluation, we may perform:
1. Visual acuity testing
2. Slit-lamp examination
3. Intraocular pressure measurement
4. Retinal examination, including dilation
5. Imaging (OCT, fundus photography) if needed
Treatment is provided on the same day whenever possible.
When to Call 911
Severe trauma, sudden loss of vision with neurological symptoms, or chemical burns that cannot be immediately flushed require emergency medical services.
