What is Visian ICL?
Could Visian ICL be the best vision correction option for you and your eyesight?
Many people come into Chelsea Eye Ophthalmology asking about LASIK or other corrective eye surgery options. They want to be able to see better without turning to contact lenses or glasses every day; unfortunately, not everyone is an ideal candidate for LASIK surgery. Despite that, our board-certified, New York ophthalmologist, Dr. Christopher Coad wants to make sure that everyone is able to get the vision correction they deserve. In this case, Visian ICL may be the ideal option. Dr. Coad works with a team of gifted and well-trained technicians and staff, creating the ideal vision correction and eye care practice using the most advanced technology.
What is Visian ICL?
Visian ICL, which stands for Implantable Contact Lens (ICL), is a special lens that is implanted into the eye to correct vision problems and to improve eyesight. If your vision changes with time, we can even remove and replace the lens to adapt to your changing vision. The lens also contains a UV blocker, which protects eyes against the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays.
What happens during the Visian ICL procedure?
This outpatient procedure is performed at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in about 20 to 30 minutes per eye. Unlike LASIK and PRK, only one eye can be done at a time.
During the procedure, our New York surgeon will create tiny incisions around the cornea to place the lens, which will lie between the eye’s lens and the iris. The lens is placed through these incisions behind the iris so it isn’t visible. After the surgery, you will need to use special eye drops as your eyes heal. It’s possible to see results as quickly as 24 hours after your surgery.
Who is a good candidate for Visian ICL?
Even if an eye doctor has told you that you aren’t an ideal candidate for LASIK you could be the perfect candidate for Visian ICL if you,
-
Are between the ages of 21 to 45
-
Have a prescription that has stayed the same for the last year
-
Have severe nearsightedness
-
Have thin corneas that aren’t ideal for LASIK surgery
