As technology has improved, it’s helped different fields grow and flourish, making life easier. That goes for ophthalmology as well. When you have vision issues, you might miss out on life’s great moments when you don’t have your corrective lenses with you. Visian ICL can give you the ability to see clearly without the use of other devices and you’ll finally be able to see the world crystal clear from the moment that you wake up.
What is Visian ICL?
ICL, which stands for Implantable Collamer Lens, is an FDA-approved vision correction procedure in which our ophthalmologist carefully implants a lens into the eye to fix common vision problems. The lens is made from a biocompatible material that contains collagen, a substance that is already naturally occurring within the body. This lens is placed behind the iris but just in front of the natural lens so it can be used to correct nearsightedness and even astigmatism. Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a great alternative for vision correction that does not involve removing eye tissue. For those patients with very thin corneas or extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, this lens implant can be an excellent option to correct vision without the use of glasses or contacts. While Visian ICL can be a permanent correction for your vision, the lens can be removed or replaced should your vision needs change.
Visian ICL provides our patients with alternative treatments to refractive surgeries such as LASIK and PRK, which can also be used to correct nearsightedness.
All About Visian ICL
Your Lasik surgeon can also perform this surgery, as it’s a similar procedure and Visian ICL can be used as an alternative to advanced Lasik or advanced PRK. This procedure does not require eye tissue to be removed and a new lens will be implanted. You won’t need to depend on glasses or contacts to see and you’ll find yourself squinting less often.
Placement takes no more than 30 minutes and you should start seeing an improvement in your vision almost immediately. You can talk to your Lasik doctor about any concerns and the recovery time can be as quick as one day. Most often, patients return to work immediately the next day! The advanced lens also contains a UV blocker that helps to prevent harmful UV rays from entering your eyes.
If you suffer from dry eyes, that’s also an issue that Visian ICL can address. No tissue will be removed, so you won’t have to worry about your eyes becoming dry and irritated after surgery. The whole process comes with minimal discomfort and will have you looking at a whole new world!
What is involved in the Visian ICL procedure?
Placement of the lens usually takes no more than 20-30 minutes and most patients will experience improved vision almost immediately. This is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure performed right here in our office. A local anesthetic is administered to numb the eye. From there, a very tiny opening is made in the eye to insert the lens. Recovery time after the procedure can be as quick as one day with minimal discomfort. The majority of patients return to work the next day.
What are the benefits of Visian ICL?
Many patients choose Visian ICL because it offers them a simple way to see better without having to wear contacts or glasses every day. This procedure is great for improving night vision, the recovery time is quick, and there is no need to remove corneal tissue, as is necessary for other corrective eye surgeries. This advanced lens implant contains a UV blocker that prevents harmful UVA and UVB rays from entering the eye. And because your cornea tissue has not been affected by this procedure, dry eye will not be an issue.

Are you considering whether Visian ICL could help you see more clearly?
